A subsidiary of the Indian Railways, IRCTC or Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation deals with catering, tourism and online ticketing operations of the railways. The website was started in 2002 and made a modest beginning of issuing only 27 tickets on its first day of operation. But it soon caught up and today has a staggering 4 lakh booking per day in terms of online ticketing only.
A user can make inquiries about train timings at irctc.co.in. Users can click on trains between important stations or on train inquiry. They will then be directed to Indian rail.gov.in or train inquiry.com. At Indian rail.gov.in users can train schedule by entering few characters of Train Name or few digits of Train Number. A single click will then give them the train timings of the requested train.
Train inquiry.com helps passengers traveling by the Indian Railways to search and find information regarding trains running across the length and breadth of the country. It has information such as live running and status updates of a train, train time table, coach position and other information. This website is also accessible by smart phones and tablets which make traveling easier for the Indian passenger.
A user can search for specific trains by entering either the five digit train number, train name, from and to station names or codes or intermediate station name. Once he has entered the requisite information, a list of train names will appear according to the details entered by him. The user needs to select the appropriate train to get more details regarding the train.
